The Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium (PSGC) Scholarship

This fellowship is for undergraduate funding for outstanding students in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) fields: http://www.psu.edu/spacegrant/highered_old/scholar.html

Emphasis: Academic

Brief Description of Award: The PSGC will award one-year scholarships in the amount of $4000 for the 2017-2018 academic year to full-time students attending an accredited Pennsylvania college or university.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens, enrolled in, have outstanding academic records and be juniors or seniors in Fall 2017 Money for studies, travel and summer internships.

.Eligibility: Must be in a STEM field, enrolled in a PA college or university.

Selection: The application deadline is February 15, 2018

Teach for America

Brief Description: Teach For America is a diverse network of leaders who confront educational inequity through teaching, and work with unwavering commitment from every sector of society to create a nation free from this injustice.

Selection: the application deadline is Sept. 13 2017, selections made in October 2017. 

Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF)

Brief Description: The Teaching Assistant Program in France offers you the opportunity to work in France for 7 months, teaching English to French students of all ages. Each year, over 1,100 American citizens and permanent residents teach in public schools across all regions of metropolitan France and in the overseas departments of French such as Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion.

Soros Fellowships for New Americans

– These fellowships are for one or two years of graduate study for New Americans: https://www.pdsoros.org/

Emphasis: Academic

Brief Description: The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans program honors the contributions of immigrants and children of immigrants to the US. Each year, we invest in the graduate education of 30 New Americans-immigrants and children of immigrants-who are poised to make significant contributions to US society, culture, or their academic field.

Eligibility: for college seniors or college graduate, must be 30 or younger, must a naturalized US citizen or green card holder.

Selection: Application is due by Nov. 1, 2017, winners announced in January.

Scoville Scholarship

– This fellowship is for graduating seniors interested in working for peace and security nonprofits in Washington D.C. The SJU application deadline is December 1, 2017 (there are two application cycles; the online application deadline is early January 2018 for Fall 2018):  http://scoville.org/

Emphasis: Academic, Research, Experiential (Peace and Security Non Profits)

Brief Description: The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship Program invites recent college and graduate school alumni to apply for full-time, six-to-nine month fellowships in Washington, DC. Outstanding individuals will be selected to work with nonprofit, public-interest organizations addressing peace and security issues. Applications are especially encouraged from candidates with a strong interest in these issues who have prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy.

Eligibility: U.S. citizen, completion of a Bachelor’s degree by the start of the scholarship

Selection: The SJU application deadline is December 1, 2017 (the online application deadline is early January 2018), finalists chosen by Feb., interviews in D.C., then winners chosen. You must also apply to Oxford University.

Schwarzman Scholarship

The Schwarzman offers a Master’s degree in Global Affairs. The application is due in late May: http://schwarzmanscholars.org/

Brief Description of Award: Schwarzman Scholars is a highly-selective, fully-funded scholarship program, based at the distinguished Tsinghua University in Beijing, designed to build a global community of young leaders in business, political  and civil society who can effectively serve as bridges between China and the rest of the world. We aim to achieve this by (1)  recruiting promising young leaders from around the world, people who have the ambition and talent to take on executive roles in government, civil society or business (2) educate them about China’s global role via a one-year Master’s in global affairs at Tsinghua and (3) link them to senior mentors in their field in China and to their peers among China’s rising young leaders. It is an unparalleled introduction to China and its role in the world.

Eligibility: bachelor’s degree, must be under 29 at time of enrollment, can be a non-US international

Rotary Global and Peace Fellowships

– Rotary Global Grants provide funds for graduate studies or research in another country in six specific areas. Rotary Peace Grants provide training at the Rotary Peace Centers for careers in peace building: https://www.rotary.org/en/our-programs/scholarships

Emphasis: Academic, Research, International

Brief Description of Award: Global Grants provide funds for graduate-level study or research in another country. Students must pursue studies in one of Rotary’s six areas of focus: Peace and Conflict Resolution, Basic Education and Literacy, Water and Sanitation, Maternal and Child Health, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Economic and Community Development. Through academic training, practice and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Fellowships develop leaders who become catalysts for peace and conflict prevention and resolution.

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree, open to non-us citizens.

Selection: The Global application is due June 30 and the Peace Application is due May 30.

The Rhodes Scholarship

– Graduate studies at Oxford University, U.K. The SJU internal application deadline is Sept. 1st (the fellowship deadline is October 4th, 2017. Brief Description: The Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest and one of the most celebrated international fellowship awards in the world. It is an international postgraduate award for students at the University of Oxford. Each year 32 students for the U.S. are selected as Rhodes Scholars, through a decentralized process representing the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. Rhodes Scholars are chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others, and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead

Eligibility: must have completed a Bachelor’s degree upon start of the fellowship, must be between 18-23 years of age, the scholarship is open to U.S. citizens and non U.S. citizens), an endorsement from your college or university is required for application (see above).

Selection: SJU deadline Sept. 1st, SJU Rhodes nominee selected mid Sept., application due Oct. 4th, 2017.  In-person interviews for finalist in late November, winners selected right afterwards.

Rangel International Affairs Fellowship

Brief Description of Award: The Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program seeks to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers as Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State. The fellowship provides support for graduate studies, domestic and overseas internships, and mentoring for careers in the Foreign Service. The Rangel Program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need.

Eligibility: for college seniors interested in graduate studies in areas related to the U.S. State Department, must be a U.S. citizen, 3.2 minimum

Selection: applications are due Sept. 21st, 2017.
