Position:

Actuarial Intern

Company/Organization:

Conrad Siegel

Please provide a brief description about what you do in your role.

"Conrad Siegel has 3 main branches to their company: Investment, Retirement and Health Services. In my role as an Actuarial Intern, I worked in the Retirement Services with pension calculations and more specifically, Defined Benefit plans."

Describe the day to day schedule in this role.

"There is no exact or traditional day-to-day schedule in the Actuarial field. However, most of my work was estimating clients' pension payments, or calculating their actual pension when they were ready to retire. I would also work on various ad-hoc projects given to me by various department heads."

How did your SJU education prepare you for this opportunity?

"The Mathematics and Actuarial Science courses prepared me very well for this opportunity. It's nice to see what you learn in the classroom and then actually apply it to real world situations."

What is some advice you would give to students who are searching for internships and jobs?

"Do not get discouraged if you are denied from 1, 5... 10 different opportunities. There are plenty of jobs and internships out there. Yes, it is competitive, but if you are driven, detail oriented, and passionate about finding something that you really want to work for, you will find it."
