Serving your country…. That’s the magis. As a Veteran, you have already learned the meaning of living greater through your selfless sacrifice in one of America’s armed forces. Thank you for your service. Whether you left the military decades ago or just recently transitioned to civilian life, Veterans share a common bond of duty, honor, and service. Veterans can also share common concerns that impact personal well-being and professional success. For a Veteran transitioning to college life, it can be especially difficult.
The Wellness, Alcohol & Drug Education (WADE) Program at Saint Joseph’s University advocates for a campus community that supports and empowers all students to make healthy lifestyles choices to help foster academic success and create a safer and healthier campus community.
WADE can provide brief assessments for Veterans looking to gain a deeper understanding of their level of alcohol or drug use. If you are concerned about your alcohol or drug use, please reach out to our staff in the office of Student Outreach and Support to set up an appointment for a brief assessment. You can call 610-660-3462, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit Campion 212. You can also utilize our online resources for web-based alcohol assessment and web-based marijuana assessment.
For Veterans in Recovery from a Substance Use Disorder, check out the Resources for Students in Recovery offered at SJU such as the on-campus 12-step meetings or the Flock: Allies of Recovery student organization. Consider joining their group or attending the social and/or educational events they host throughout the year. This off-campus resource, Veterans and Addiction might also be helpful.
The Office of Veteran Services, located in Mandeville Hall, 206D, has additional resources for Veterans at SJU. We hope you find SJU a welcoming place where you can earn your degree while enhancing your commitment to serve your community.
