Monitoring Academic Progress

Weekly or bi-weekly meetings are provided to the student-athletes to help monitor their academic progress. During these meetings, student-athletes update their athletic advisor with recent grades and upcoming assignments and exams. In addition, meetings are used to set goals and make plans for the upcoming week, semester and year. If additional academic support is needed, referrals are made to student-athletes.

Academic Progress Reports and Midterm and Final Grade Reports are also used to monitor academic progress. Student-athletes who receive poor progress reports or midterm grades are required to meet with their athletic advisor in order to formulate a plan to improve their academic performance.  Progress reports, midterm grades, final grades, as well as the information collected during the academic meetings are shared with all head coaches, so they can further assist their student-athletes in maintaining good academic progress.

Course Registration

Athletic advisors work with academic advisors and the advising centers on campus to assist student-athletes in course registration and add/drop/withdraw decisions each semester.

Academic Support

The Office of Educational Support Services for Student-Athletes includes a Learning Specialist, two Academic Mentors, and a Reading Specialist who provide individual appointments for academic support.

Peer tutoring and Supplemental Instruction are available for certain courses to all students. Athletic advisors and the Learning Specialist/Academic Mentors refer student-athletes for these services, as needed.
