Welcome New Faculty

The Philosophy Department is happy to announce the following additions to our departmental community for the fall 2018 semester:

Lorraine Keller, Ph.D.

Lorraine comes to us from Niagara University in New York. Her research interests are in the philosophy of religion, philosophy of language, and metaphysics. She is the most recent winner of the Res Philosophica New Frontiers in Philosophy of Religion Essay Prize for her article “Divine Ineffability and Franciscan Knowledge” (2018). Lorraine received her Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. She will be teaching two sections of Philosophy of Religion in the fall.

John Christopher Keller, Ph.D.

John also comes to us from Niagara University in New York.   His areas of specialization are metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of religion. His recent publications include “Paraphrase and the Symmetry Objection” appearing in the Australasian Journal of Philosophy (2017). John received his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame and has been named holder of the Reverend Joseph S. Hogan, S.J. ’03 Endowed Chair in Philosophy. In the fall semester John will be teaching a section of Logic and an Honors section of Philosophy of Death.

Janez Perčič, S. J.

Rev. Janez Perčič, S.J., a native of Slovenia, was ordained into the priesthood in 1994 and served as a parish priest in Ljubljana-Dravlje for four years. He received his Ph.D. in philosophy from the Munich School of Philosophy and he’s held teaching or research positions at Munich, Georgetown University, Boston College, and College of the Holy Cross. He has written or edited six books, including his recently authored book on Hegel and Aristotle Freedom in Dependency (Dresden 2017). As a newly appointed University Professor at St. Joseph’s University, Fr. Perčič will be teaching a section of Moral Foundations this fall.

The Department also welcomes new instructors, Bradley Elicker (Ph.D. Temple 2016), and Keli Birchfield (M.A. Temple 2018).

A special welcome to the youngest member of the Philosophy Department, Sebastian Belmont Kates, born July 30, 2018 at 5:00PM. Congratulations to his proud parents, Michael and Helen Kates.
