Career Advancement, I got a job!

Position:

Trade Planning Associate

Company/Organization:

General Mills, Inc.

Briefly describe your opportunity.

"I got the opportunity to fly to our World Headquarters in Minneapolis, MN for my final round interview. When I got here, I knew if I got an offer I would accept. I am now in a sales rotational program, where I will go through various roles in category management, customer account management, and trade planning. Currently, I'm in my second role at our World Headquarters as a Trade Planning Associate on our Annie's and Cascadian Farm brands. I leverage various trade and planning tools to analyze and provide insight into pricing, merchandising and distribution to our customer teams."

How did you first learn about or get connected to your current position?

"I got connected to General Mills through personal networking. I had General Mills on my radar for future employment for a long time so when it came time for the job hunt, I reached out to someone I knew that worked here. From there they connected me to our college recruiting team!"

How did your SJU education impact your position or professional goals?

"I always knew I wanted to work in the food industry. When I applied to other schools, no other school had a major dedicated to food like SJU did. This made my decision to attend SJU, among many other factors, an easy one. The amount I learned in my food marketing classes, along with internships in the food industry, made my transition into working at General Mills very easy. I still find myself connecting things I learned in my classes to what I do now."

Did you participate in any experiential learning activities while at SJU?

"I had 2 internships while at SJU, both with food companies. One was on the retailer side at Wakefern Food Corp and the other was on the CPG side at PepsiCo. I also did a 6-week study abroad session in the summer before my senior year."
