Privacy Tips

Be #PrivacyAware.

Share With Care

  • What you post can last a lifetime: Before posting online think about how it might be perceived now and in the future and who might see it.
  • Own your online presence: Set the privacy and security settings on web services and devices to your comfort level for information sharing. It’s ok to limit how and with whom you share information.
  • Be aware of what’s being shared: Be aware that when you share a post, picture or video online, you may also be revealing information about others. Be thoughtful when and how you share information about others.
  • Post only about others as you have them post about you: The golden rule applies online as well.

Personal Information Is Like Money. Value It. Protect It.

  • Think before you act: Be wary of communications that implore you to act immediately, offer something that sounds too good to be true or ask for personal information.
  • Get two steps ahead: Switch on two-step verification or multi-factor authentication wherever offered to prevent unauthorized access.

Login Page Redesign

Over Christmas Break on December 27th, we will be updating the login page of applications that use our single sign-on authentication method called Central Authentication Service (CAS).  CAS unifies the login process of many SJU applications (such as The Nest, Blackboard Learn, Zimbra). Instead of having to manually sign into each application separately, only one login, regardless of the application, is needed per browser session.

This new design will make navigation more visually appealing and user friendly.  The straightforward look will provide a better user experience, especially as we begin to welcome our Fall 2016 admitted students during #redenvelope season.

Here is a sneak peak of what you can expect to see:

All of your favorite links and services are still available.  You will just need to select the Show Portal Resources button in order to view them.

For security purposes, we would like to remind you to log out of all SJU services when you are finished working in them.  All you will need to do is click “Log Out” or “Sign Out” in the top right corner of the application and close out of your browser.

If you have any questions about the redesign, please contact the Technology Service Center.

Banner Downtime over Christmas Break

Banner INB and SSB will be unavailable the following times over Christmas Break for system upgrades:

Friday, December 25th from 8am until 10am
Sunday, January 3rd from 7am until 12pm

INB is short for “Internet Native Banner” and refers to the back-end of Banner that is most widely used by administrative staff to manage their data. Offices such as Financial Affairs, Advancement, and Enrollment Management, just to name a few, have many staff members accessing Banner INB constantly to manage institutional data.

The majority of Faculty and Staff use another form of Banner known as “Self-Service Banner”, or SSB, which is accessible through the Administrative Services section of The Nest.

When you enter students’ final grades, perform a budget query, submit or approve leave reports, or check your pay stub, you are using SSB.

If you have any questions, please contact the TSC at x2920 or by email at techhelp@sju.edu.
