IT Outage: Wireless – Tomorrow

On Friday, February 8th, from 6am-7am, the wireless will be unavailable in your building.  At this time, we will be upgrading the wireless software. No other services will be impacted by this outage.

Media Services Hours and Location Update

Beginning Monday, February 4th, the Media Services’ office, located in B/L 34 will no longer remain open until 10pm and will close, instead, at 7pm.  The Merion Hall office will remain open until 10pm to handle any campus events or problems that may arise.  In the future, all equipment check-outs will take place at the Merion Hall office.  More information to follow as office renovations take place.

Monday-Thursday: 8am to 7pm
                     Friday: 8am to 5pm
                Saturday: 8am to 4pm

Monday-Thursday: 8am to 10pm

February Lynda.com Licenses now available!

In order to offer continuing technical support, we’d like to announce that we’ve recently purchased a limited number of licenses from Lynda.com, a recognized provider of online training. These licenses are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and will provide you with full access to Lynda.com’s library of online training material for a one-month period free of charge. At the end of that time, your license will expire. You may, however, request another license anytime thereafter.

In order to request a license to access to http://www.lynda.com/, please email Ben Jezierski, IT Training Coordinator at bjeziers@sju.edu.

You will receive instructions for accessing the online training material shortly after submitting your request.

Welcome Back, Students!

Hello Hawks! Welcome back to SJU. We hope you had a wonderful winter break.

During move-in Sunday, January 13th, the TSC will have extended walk-in hours in SC129 to assist with technology issues such as setting up wireless, viruses or spyware, hardware or setting up email on the new device you received for Christmas.
Our hours on Sunday, January 13th, will be 9:00am-7:00pm.

Throughout the Spring 2013 Semester, our walk-in hours will be:
Monday – Thursday 7:30am-9:30pm
Friday 7:30am-5:00pm
Saturday – Sunday 11:00am – 5:00pm

We are also available to Faculty, Staff and Students via email and phone. Our email address is techhelp@sju.edu.  Our 24/7 phone support can be reached at 610-660-2920.

In addition, we are pleased to announce that beginning on February 6th, the TSC will offer walk-in hours for Technology Training. Our trainer, Ben Jezierski, will be available every Wednesday from 4pm – 6pm in SC129.

Windows 8 at SJU

At this time, we are in the process of testing Windows 8.  We will continue to install and support Windows 7 on all SJU owned machines.  For faculty and staff making personal computer purchases, please be aware that not all SJU services currently work with Windows 8.  If you are making a personal computer purchase, we recommend that you purchase Windows 8 Professional or Enterprise.  We do not recommend Windows RT if you use your personal computer for SJU related business.  One particular drawback to Windows RT is the use of Zimbra web.  Zmail.sju.edu will not load in its default Advanced Version.  Instead, you will have to choose the Standard Version with limited functionality.

Additional applications that will not work with Windows 8 at this time include:

ZCO (Zimbra Connector to Outlook).  If you are an employee using Outlook, you use this application

We will keep the university posted as to the progress of our testing.

 

Holiday Technology Support

The  Technology Service Center would like to remind you to turn off unnecessary equipment such as printers and computers that you do not remotely connect to over the holiday break.

The TSC will be closed to walk-in service while the University is closed from December 22nd through January 1st.  We will continue to have 24/7 phone support at 610-660-2920 during this time.  Our office will reopen for business on January 2nd.

Our hours when we return to campus on January 2nd and throughout the Spring semester will be:
