The Student Technology Center will close on Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at 2pm until Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 for Fall Break. We will reopen and resume our normal schedule on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009.
There are a number of things you can do to help ease your transition back to campus, at least as far as your computer is concerned. Before coming back to campus, you can:
- Make sure have the latest Windows Updates (PC only) – To make sure your computer is up to date, please visit: http://www.update.microsoft.com/
- Make sure you have an Active, up-to-date Virus Protection application (PC and Mac). If your computer is in need of virus protection software, please download it from: http://it.sju.edu/downloads/. You will need to log in with your SJU username and password. If you do not know your SJU username and password, please reset it at http://my.sju.edu/
The University’s primary supported Windows version remains Windows XP. Because of some known problems and the incompatibility of some software applications, Windows Vista is NOT supported at this time. Students with systems running Windows Vista will receive network support – including wireless access – only. All other technical issues will need to be addressed by the original computer vender (i.e. Dell or HP).
All business students are expected to use Windows XP, and business machines needing re-imaging will be re-imaged with Windows XP. All other computers running Windows on campus will also continue to use Windows XP.
The Student Technology Center has discontinued the practice of backing up personal data for students in the Laptop Program. The amount of disk space and time required to perform these backups has grown so large that it is just not possible for the STC to support it. It is the student’s responsibility to back up their personal data/files before submitting their computer to the Student Technology Center for service.

We hope you have had a relaxing and fun-filled summer! The Office of Information Technology has been working very hard this summer on enhancing the technology resources available to you. As we start off a new academic year, we wanted take this opportunity to share some of those improvements with you using our new STC blog.
We hope to use this STC blog as an interactive way to share STC technology news, what new projects are taking place in the STC, and to share tips and tricks for using technology more effectively. Please share your own comments and ideas with us to enhance this discussion.
The Student Technology Center (STC) is located in Science Center 129. More than fifty public-use computers are available in the STC and each computer has access to the Internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet and database applications, presentation software, and a variety of other instructional software. The Student Help Desk is also located in the STC. You can contact the Student Help Desk if you need assistance in connecting to the SJU Network (wired and wireless) from your room; virus and spyware issues; laptop program repairs; logging into the campus network, etc. The Student Help Desk may be contacted by phone at or feel free to walk-in during our open hours.
