Can I “upgrade” my existing computer to Windows 7?
Information Technology will not automatically update the current operating system on a computer unless there is a specific business need. Faculty and Staff who choose to update to Windows 7 must meet the recommended hardware requirements. Currently, there is no designated upgrade path from Windows XP. A clean installation will be required and all user data files must be backed up onto another storage medium. Following a fresh installation of the Windows 7 operating system, all user data files must be migrated over to the newly set up computer. All programs and settings will have to be reinstalled and reconfigured on the computer. This process could take up to 3 business days. Please send your upgrade request for consideration to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Windows 7 recommended minimum system requirements:
Processor: Pentium 4 / Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz
Ram: 2GB or more
Graphics Card: Dedicated graphics card, 128 or 256 mb of memory
Hard Drive Space: 160GB available disk space (or more)
All IT-owned labs/classrooms/podiums will be upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit over the summer of 2011. As equipment in other labs/classrooms is replaced, they will be upgraded.
