Sock Donation Drive

clothesline

Did you know that Socks are one of the most needed items by agencies who provide services for homeless, foster children, and others who are less fortunate?

The SJU Mission Week Cradles 2 Crayons sub-committee is collecting new socks for less fortunate children ages 0-12.

They're holding a competition between areas to see which area can donate the most socks (# of socks / # of employees in the area)!

New socks only! For ages 0-12 between March 13th and march 23rd.

SJU Faculty, Staff, and Students will then deliver the socks to Cradles 2 Crayons during the service activity on March 24th.

Synopsis: Adjuncts, part-time faculty, and full-time non-tenure track faculty constitute over 70% of faculty on campuses across the United States. Many of these teaching professionals work on a semester to semester basis and work without job security and benefits.  Payment per course often does not amount to a living wage. A recent study shows that 1 in 4 families of part-time faculty rely one at least one public assistance program, such as food stamps or Medicaid (University of California Berkeley Center for Labor Research and Education, 2015). A panel of faculty will examine the issues raised by the reliance on contingent faculty to provide much of the education in colleges and universities. Implications for Saint Joseph's Univeristy in light of its Jesuit, Catholic mission will also be considered.
