Delta Phi Alpha Honorary Society
The society recognizes excellence in the study of German and provides an incentive for advanced scholarship. “The Delta Phi Alpha National German Honorary Society began with the founding of the Alpha chapter at Wofford College in 1927, and now has constituent chapters at 236 colleges and universities throughout the United States. … The Society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature and civilization and endeavors to emphasize those aspects of German life and culture which are of universal value and which contribute to man’s eternal search for peace and truth.” Students majoring or minoring in German, who distinguish themselves for their outstanding performance in German are eligible for induction in the honor society towards the end of their undergraduate career. Students may enroll in Departmental Honors, which is awarded upon successful completion of a two-semester honors level research project under the guidance of a director. These two courses may be counted toward the eight course Honors requirement. Students with a GPA of 3.5 and above may apply.
