Blackboard Service Pack (SP) 13

The Blackboard SP 13 upgrade will feature some awesome improvements over SP 9 (our current version).  Visit this page to explore some of the new features.

Blackboard Content

Blackboard Content will allow users to share, reuse, and manage content between users, courses, departments, and the university as whole. Its features include:

  • A simple yet robust file management system for personal, course, and institutional document management, sharing, and re-use – the Content Collection with Blackboard Drive

  • A cloud-based, global learning object repository for authoring, copyright, sharing, and discovery of rich educational materials and open educational resources – Blackboard xpLor

  • Personal ePortfolios for showcasing achievements and experiences and sharing with others both within and outside the institution.

  • eReserves for librarians to make digital versions of copyright-cleared reserve readings available directly in the course

Blackboard Community

Blackboard Community is an academic portal that will:

  • Promote easier online collaboration and communication for campus groups, clubs, committees, faculty, students or administration.

  • Represent multiple unique identities or brands across different campuses, schools, colleges or degree programs.

  • Be more efficient in delivering school-wide or district-wide news with targeted information based on the user’s role—student, teacher, administrator, first year, business major, etc.

  • Support multiple organizational units with different needs – for example, different schools, departments, colleges, or even institutions in a system – on a single instance of Blackboard Learn.

Blackboard Outcomes

Blackboard Outcomes is an assessment module being piloted by the Department of Education. Blackboard Outcomes Assessment will support Education’s need to systematize and automate the collection of student work for rubric-based evaluation and reporting related to their accreditation and improvement efforts.

By relying on course-embedded assessment methods, education can leverage work already being done by faculty and students in online or face-to-face classrooms for program and institutional assessment with minimal impact to instructors and their existing teaching and learning activities, while still supporting highly authentic assessment practices.
