Sharon Felegie, Instructional Designer from the ATDL, presented a workshop to HSB faculty on the use of the Quality Matters rubric in online course design. She gave an overview of the rubric, which consists of eight key components and forty one specific guidelines used to create a quality online course design. Quality Matters is a nationally recognized program, based on faculty research. Saint Joseph’s University has been a member of Quality Matters since 2011. The Office of Information Technology and Academic Technology & Distributed Learning have established a Technology Innovation Fund (TIF) to encourage and support faculty in their use of new and innovative instructional technologies to advance teaching and learning. Dr. Miori used the iPad and IBM Mobile Cognos to demonstrate to her students how to build dashboards from large data sets that reside in the cloud to provide meaningful results.

AV Vendor: Total Video Products (TVP)
The Mandeville Hall Moot Board Room suite, 310, 311 and 313 will get a complete AV overhaul this coming summer. All existing equipment, racks and wiring will be stripped out of all areas and replaced with new.
MV 310 and 313 will feature a Panasonic HD 8000 lumens main projector and a 104″ 16:9 projection screen. Flanked on either side of the main screen will be two Sharp 52″ LCD displays and two more Sharp 52″ LCD displays in the rear of each room on the window walls. Each of the four LCD areas will serve as collaboration spaces for students to break-out into small groups and work together as a team on a problem or project. Each collaboration space will feature a touch-button control pad and an AV interface for students to plug-in their own laptop. A ceiling-mounted document camera will be positioned above the Sit-to-Stand. The AV rack is built into the desk and will have installed a PC, Blu-ray DVD player and an AV/Laptop interface and Extron touch panel for system control.
AV capture, recording and streaming will also be an integral part of the new systems. Mediasite by Sonic Foundry will be implemented into the Moot suites. http://www.sonicfoundry.com/mediasite
Wall mounted cameras, a tracking camera and boundary table-mics will be used for recording and streaming. Recorded sessions are automatically uploaded and published to a URL.
Sound reinforcement will be spread evenly across the room by eight ceiling speakers.
IP video conferencing will be available using LifeSize.
Control of the system will be from an Extron touch panel located on the teacher’s Sit-to-stand desk. ALL AV routing and switching will go through an Aurora 16×16 HDMI Digital 1080P switcher.
Observation Room 311 will have an 80″ Sharp LCD with the ability to route one to four separate video signals to the display.
