HSB Hall of Fame Recipient, 2015
AutoNation Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President Mike Jackson ’71 is one of the automotive industry’s most influential and effective leaders. Since joining AutoNation in 1999, he has transformed the automotive retail industry and elevated AutoNation to the country’s largest automotive retailer, selling more than 525,000 vehicles each year.
Under Jackson’s guidance, AutoNation has set milestones that stand as testimony to his vision of the company as a standard bearer for a more customer-focused, transparent and contemporary business model. The only retailer to sell nearly 10 million vehicles, AutoNation totaled more than $19 billion in revenue in 2014.
Before joining AutoNation, Jackson, who graduated from Saint Joseph’s with a degree in political science, served as president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA and helped create the vision and direction leading to the luxury vehicle brand’s rejuvenation in the United States.
In April 2014, Jackson was inducted into the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans in a ceremony at the U.S. Supreme Court. Also in April, Jackson was given an honorary membership in Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society for collegiate schools of business.
He has been honored with recognition from numerous other organizations and media outlets, including being honored by the Automotive Hall of Fame at a Top Industry Leader, named as a 10-time Automotive News All-Star and on Fortune’s Top 50 Global Business Leaders, and recognized by Sports Illustrated, The Detroit Free Press and Advertising Age.
Active in a number of local civic and philanthropic interests, Jackson is married to Alice Lucia-Jackson and has three children, Michael, Kristina and Lauren.
