HSB Hall of Fame Recipient 2017

For more than 30 years, Christopher D. Furman ‘81 has played key roles in the food industry in the U.S. and internationally. Today, he is the President and CEO of Ventura Foods, a leading global manufacturer of custom and branded food products based in Brea, Calif. The company, with 3,000 employees and annual revenues of more than $3 billion, is a privately held joint venture between CHS Inc. and Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

Furman graduated from SJU’s Erivan K. Haub School of Business with a degree in food marketing. Prior to joining Ventura Foods, he spent 23 years with PepsiCo and held positions of increasing responsibility. This tenure included multiple assignments in the United States in sales, marketing and operations, as well as an international role as President of Pepsi Spain, based in Madrid. Furman also served as President of PepsiCo Foodservice, a position that placed him among the company’s top 30 executives and a member of the governing executive leadership team.

Since taking the helm of Ventura Foods in late 2009, Furman has championed the company’s long-term business and growth strategy. Under his leadership, Ventura has had five of its most successful growth years and is consistently recognized for its excellence by customers, suppliers and employees.

A past member of the SJU Board of Trustees, Furman established an SJU endowed scholarship for Food Marketing students in 2013. He also currently serves on the board of the Pacific Life Insurance Company. Furman is deeply committed to community service through his active participation with the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, and as a past member of the Consultative Board for the Santa Margarita Catholic High School.

He lives in Coto de Caza, Calif., with his wife, Monica. They have three children: Matthew, Emily and Caroline ‘18.
