HALL OF HONOR AWARD RECIPIENTS
Bruno Garisto was Weis Markets’ Vice President of Center Store Merchandising and Sales. Based in Sunbury, PA, Weis Markets is a Mid-Atlantic food retailer that operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Virginia and West Virginia. Mr. Garisto had day-to-day oversight of the company’s center store, dairy and health and beauty and general merchandise departments along with its private brand program.
Prior to being promoted to vice president, Mr. Garisto was the company’s Director of Private Brands. During his career, he worked in supply chain management, merchandising, marketing, procurement and sales in the United States and abroad. Earlier in his career, he worked for Giant Food Stores, Ahold Indonesia, Ahold USA, Daymon Worldwide and Hillandale Farms.
Mr. Garisto represented Weis Markets on St. Joseph’s University of Academy of Food Marketing Board of Governors. He also sat on the Parish Council for Sacred Heart Church in Lewisburg, PA and was a member of Toastmasters International.
Mr. Garisto graduated from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Food Marketing. He also attended Bucknell University where he earned a master’s degree in Business Administration. A native of Harrisburg, Bruno was married to his wife, Carolyn, for 16 years and was the father of two children, Nick and Katie.
Mike Sherlock is the Sr. Vice President – Chief Product Marketing Officer. In his role, he oversees short and long-term category strategies to build the merchandise brand for Wawa’s 800 stores, which is nearly a $5 billion business. This includes Wawa’s core brands – fresh and packaged beverages, SizzliTM breakfast sandwiches, hoagies, and snacks. Mike oversees four teams within the marketing organization – category and brand management, product innovation, space planning and merchandising, and a center of excellence. These teams work with internal and external partners to lead the innovation process when developing and testing new products, creating brand engagement, determining advertising and promotional strategies, and collaborating with over 100 vendor partners.
Mike sits on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Food Marketing at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He serves on the Leadership Council for Penn Medicine’s Institute for Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism (IDOM). Mike is the Executive Sponsor for the Rainbow Alliance at Wawa, and is actively involved with the Chester County Buddy Walk, initiatives focusing on inclusion and diversity. Mike received his MS and BS in Food Marketing from Saint Joseph’s University. He resides outside of Philadelphia with his wife, Christine, and their son, Quinn.
FOOD MARKETING RISING STAR RECIPIENTS
Joseph O’Connor is the Director of Sales for Hormel Foods and is responsible for managing the Consumer Product Sales business in the Northeast totaling $290MM in Sales.
Joe started his career with Hormel Foods in 2006 after graduating from Saint Joseph’s University with a degree in Food Marketing. Joe has held numerous positions in Analytics, Sales, Category Sales and Management. Throughout his career, he has also been assigned to lead special projects throughout the organization working cross functionally with various departments. Additionally, Joe is recognized as a talent first manager who actively mentors individuals while helping them to develop their own internal resume within Hormel.
Joe takes great pride in being an alum of the SJU Food Marketing Program. He has been very active on campus for the past 8 years and has participated in numerous events, classes and seminars. Hormel Foods is the sponsor of the Business Policy finals and actively recruits students from the business majors where they hire on average 4-5 students per year.
Joe, along with his wife Kelly (SJU Alumni) and their daughter, Annie, reside in Bethlehem, PA.
Claire Tedesco graduated from Saint Joseph’s University in 2015 with a degree in Food Marketing and Leadership, Ethics and Organizational Sustainability (L.E.O.). During her 4 years, Claire was highly engaged on campus. She was Student Body President, a rower on the women’s rowing team, an orientation leader, Resident Assistant, Event Chair of Relay For Life and a member of Dean’s Leadership Program. In February of her senior year, Claire accepted a job at Ahold-Delhaize (formally Delhaize International) in their rotational leadership program in Boston, MA. In May of 2016, she was recruited to work for HelloFresh, a meal kit delivery company in Manhattan. At her time at HelloFresh, she was a packaging buyer, protein and dairy buyer and now, oversees all of US Operations for Protein & Dairy as an Associate Category Manager. Claire feels incredibly indebted to her education and experience at Saint Joseph’s University and continues to volunteer as an Executive Board Member for SJU’s National Alumni Board(NAB). Claire Tedesco currently lives in New York, New York and is pursuing her MBA at Fordham University.
