Sigma Tau Delta Tau Delta, the official International English Honor Society, founded in 1924, currently holds 880 active chapters world-wide. Saint Joseph University’s Omicron Phi chapter offers membership to English majors and English minors annually every spring based on academic excellence. The 2017-2018 chapter currently holds thirty-five members that attend monthly meetings, events on campus and in the surrounding area, and complete 10 service hours per semester.
As stated on the national organization’s website, Sigma Tau Delta works to “foster all aspects of the discipline of English, including literature, language, and writing.” This mission, and the constitution of Sigma Tau Delta, drives our university chapter to pursue academic excellence and incorporate the society’s values into all that we do. Membership to the organization provides a lifelong connection to scholarship and fellowship, ultimately benefiting the English department at large at Saint Joseph’s University.
