Internships for Credit
Economics Department – Saint Joseph’s University
The Economics Department at SJU is offering an academic internship program for all majors and minors* with a minimum GPA of 3.0. We are hoping that over half of our majors will have an internship experience before they graduate.
There is no doubt that interning during college clarifies career choices and increases employment opportunities. Internships complement and reinforce classroom learning. They expand minds and horizons.
At this point, we have developed unpaid, academic internships in the Philadelphia area that will take place during the Fall or Spring semesters. Students who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 would register for ECN 493 Philadelphia Economics Internship and get course credit while working 10 hours per week (for 13 weeks) with select employers. Their work experience will be supplemented with study in their particular job area under the guidance of a professor.
A successful academic internship is a three-way partnership between the student, the employer, and the faculty advisor.
Dr. Bookman is working with members of the Economics Department as well as the staff at Career Services to identify suitable employers in the private and public sectors, as well as in non-governmental and non-profit organizations.
Stay turned for some very interesting internship possibilities in fields such as financial services, health economics, environmental policy, economic development, labor economics and many more.
