Philadelphia county and Montgomery county moved to the “yellow phase” of reopening on June 5th, 2020. While our region remains in this phase, CAPS is continuing to provide students the opportunity to consult with a counselor by phone to receive help for a mental health concern.
To access the CAPS consultation service students can call 610-660-1090 during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) and provide the information requested in a confidential voicemail (i.e. name, SJU student ID number and a preferred call back number). A CAPS therapist will return the call the same day, listen to the student’s concern and offer tools, coping strategies and on-line resources. CAPS clients may also choose to use this service to request follow up from their counselor, depending on their availability.
Please note: A call-in consultation is meant to serve as a single-use mode of support that relies on a problem-focused approach. Students choosing to use this service should establish a private space for a conversation with a CAPS therapist that can take place for up to 20-25 minutes. Students may need to adjust their personal phone settings to accept incoming calls from private/blocked numbers.
After hours and urgent concerns will continue to be addressed via the typical manner of support through calling SJU Public Safety (610-660-1111) and requesting a call back from the CAPS on-call counselor. For mental health emergencies please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
