About the area: Neon has a population of about 850. It sits in Letcher County in the Eastern parts of Kentucky. Nearly 40% of the population lives below the poverty line. The town was originally Chip, but changed in 1977, its new name derived from the train that would travel through the area, wherein the conductor would instruct people boarding to get a “knee-on”. You work alongside Project H.O.M.E.S. (Housing Oriented Ministries Established for Service), an organization that works to provide affordable housing for those in need by constructing/deconstructing houses at the lowest possible costs.
