We’re only two weeks away from the first day of classes on Hawk Hill. This is one of the most exciting times of the year; seeing friends, being back on campus, feeling the freedom of college once again. There are a bunch of exciting things happening all within the first month of school. Here are some events you can look forward to while packing and buying textbooks.
1. Welcome Home Mass: Sunday, August 27th, 7PM
Welcome Home Mass is the first mass of the semester held at the Chapel. It’s a fun way to ring in the new school year, surrounded by your peers. This mass is a perfect way to start the semester off on a positive note. Also, following the mass, Campus Ministry always holds a reception on the porch of Wolfington Hall where you can find out more about all of the activities that Campus Ministry offers including retreats, Koinonia (faith-sharing groups), service opportunities, immersion trips, and so much more.
2. Study Abroad Fair: Tuesday, September 13, 11AM – 1:30PM
Interested in studying abroad? The Study Abroad Fair is the place to be to explore all of the international programs offered to Saint Joe’s students. It’s held in the 2nd floor Campion Foyer, where there will be tons of tables set up with information on all of the programs available. It’s never too early to start thinking about going abroad; in fact, the earlier you start to plan the smoother your experience will be, and the Study Abroad Fair is the best place to begin.
3. Fall Career Fair: Thursday, September 22, 10AM – 1:30PM
This is the one day of the semester that you will see more suits and ties than sweatpants and sneakers. The Fall Career Fair is an exciting time on campus. Held in Hagan Arena, hundreds of tables are set up to host representatives from businesses in many different industries seeking eager, interested students looking to jumpstart their career. This is the perfect place to start getting your name out there and gaining contacts in the industry that you want to work in. It is pretty much vital for Juniors and Seniors to attend, but Freshman and Sophomores are encouraged to get out there and gain some experience. All you need is a professional outfit and a resume, and you’re ready to go.
4. HawkFest 2016: Saturday, September 24
HawkFest, aka Family Weekend, is one of the most exciting events of the fall semester. It is a day to celebrate SJU and for students and parents to enjoy the community. There are plenty of events going on during the day to give everyone a little taste of what Saint Joe’s is all about, including the Kinney Center 5K and Taste of Philly picnic. Parents love it, students love it, we all love it. Mark your calendars.
5. Kinney Walk/Run for Autism: Saturday, September 24, 7:30AM
Sponsored by the Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support, students and families come together to participate in a 5K on the Maguire Campus. This year is the fifth annual Kinney 5K to benefit individuals with autism and their families. It’s a fantastic way to get involved and make a difference. Student pricing is $10 and non-student pricing is $25. It’s an exciting event for the whole family with the opportunity to feel more apart of the SJU community. Visit the Kinney Center’s website for more information.
