Halloween on Campus

It’s finally here!!! Halloween is definitely one of the most fun holidays to experience on a college campus. At Saint Joe’s, we celebrate for about half of the month of October. Here are some of the awesome events we had on campus this year around.

Fall Fest

On Thursday, Oct. 15th, the SJU Student Union Board sponsored the annual Fall Fest during free period. This year, students gathered outside of Campion to celebrate the season with fall-themed food and activities, and even a musical performance by Piper Bateman, a senior at Saint Joe’s. Students snacked on on caramel apples, ice cream, and apple cider while painting pumpkins and taking “I Love SUB Because…” photos with the famous SUB backdrop. This event was a perfect way to take a break from the day by having some fall fun and hanging out with friends. The best part is that it was free! If something has the word “free” in it, college kids come running. SJU is lucky to have a group like SUB that provides us with such fun and free activities.

Trip to Bates Motel

Only one week away from Halloween Night, SUB sponsored a trip to Bates Motel in Glen Mills, PA. This trip only costed $15, and included costs of transportation and entry to the Haunted Hayride, Bates Motel, and the Haunted Corn Maze. This Halloween attraction is known as America’s Most Horrifying Hotel, and was a delightfully spooky escape from campus for a night. Though this trip required a little money, it was a small price to pay for a fun night of screams, scares, and an adventure off campus.

Hand in Hand Harvest

1503300_816830871713600_1594664485706409151_nSJU Hand in Hand is an organization that hosts annual events that aim to spread awareness, increase interaction, and create unity among the SJU community and individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. On Thursday, Oct. 29, Hand in Hand hosted over 80 of these individuals and invited the whole Saint Joe’s community to paint pumpkins, do spin art, dance to music, play corn hole, and eat tasty food during free period. The event was a huge success, and everyone involved had a great time. Hand in Hand is also having a Landmark Fundraiser on Monday, Nov. 2 to raise money for the organization. Halloween Party & Celebrity Costume Contest

DgBVSY-IL5BXxY2EbOMBUY1BOn Halloween Eve, the Black Student Union hosted its annual Halloween Party and Costume Contest at The Perch. This event was open to all SJU students and students from neighboring colleges and had a $2 entry fee for SJU students, and $5 for non-SJU Students. This event featured food, drinks, a DJ, and a celebrity costume contest with prizes. This event is always a big hit on campus, and you can see why by just walking past The Perch during the party. With blaring music, strobe lights, and good people, this event is a fun, safe party for students to attend with their friends.

Tonight is Halloween! To wrap up the celebratory season, SUB is sponsoring a trip to Terror Behind Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary. This terrifying tour of the haunted prison is famous across the nation, and is pretty much in SJU’s backyard, and I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Regardless, students will be conquering this super scary attraction tonight at 10pm. What better time to be at a haunted prison than Halloween Night?
