Faculty Listing Tool

We are happy to announce version 1 of our new Faculty Listing tool.

This tool will allow Academic Departments to display a listing of faculty members on their websites; this listing is synced with our main University Faculty Profiles, so there is no need to keep multiple sources of content updated – this is a “set it and forget it”!

To use the Faculty Listing tool, send a message to the Web Services team, and we will activate it on your site.

Creating a Faculty Listing

Once the listing tool is activated on your site, creating a faculty listing is simple.  Add a new page and give it a title (“Our Faculty” or simply “Faculty” is appropriate).

Over in the right sidebar, under the “Publish” section, there will be a special area with “Page Attributes“.  In this area, change the Page Template to Faculty Listing.

Selecting your Department

Once you have selected the Faculty Listing template, new fields will appear above where you normally create your page content.

You can use the select box to choose your department; if you have additional information you wish to display below the listing of faculty, you can include that in the text box below.

Publishing your Page

Finally, publish the page.

If you notice that there are any errors with the listing of faculty, please contact Web Services.  Faculty can make changes to their profiles and the changes should appear on your listing automatically.

Using an Accordion

The accordion module allows you to create simple container rows for displaying labels and hidden content. Users click on the container labels to display further information held in the accordion content area.

Accordions are great for FAQs where a simple list of questions can be clicked to open up answers.

The accordion module is part of the Page Builder, and can be accessed under the Advanced Modules area.

Check out the video below for a great introduction to the Accordion Module.  Video produced by the Beaver Builder Team.

Using the Page Builder (Beaver Builder)

Pages and Posts are great for simple web content, and WordPress has some great built-in options for embedding media and creating photo galleries.  But what if you want to do something more advanced, like create text in columns, create a FAQ page utilizing an accordion, or make a really neat staff directory?

Enter the Page Builder

One of the plugins that is offered for websites on our WordPress system is Beaver Builder, which is a Visual Page Builder especially for WordPress.  Users of the SJU WordPress System can request to have this plugin activated on their sites.

Editing a Page Builder Page

Some of your pages on your website may be using page builder already!  You will see a screen that looks like the picture below when you go to edit one of these pages.  Click the big blue “Launch Page Builder” button!  You’ll be brought into the page builder, where you can make your changes.

Using the Page Builder

The Page Builder offers a number of built-in page layouts (templates) and ways for displaying content (modules).  Once the Page Builder is enabled on your site, you need to activate it on any page.  Simply edit a page, and click the “Page Builder” tab.

Video Tutorial

Here is a great video tutorial created by a web developer on YouTube about using the Page Builder that should help you get started.  We will be adding additional resources to this page along with additional tutorials to help you learn more about using Beaver Builder.
