Food Week – October 20 to 24

The Institute for Environmental Stewardship, The Pedro Arrupe Center for Business Ethics, the SJU Community Garden Club, the SJU Sustainability Commitee, Net Impact Student Chapter, the Food Marketing Department, and Campus Ministry are partnering to bring a series of events related to food with a focus on urban agriculture, food justice and sustainability issues. Some of the events are listed below, others will be added soon.

Growing Cities – A film about urban agriculture in the US

Join us for a screening and a brief discussion of the documentary film Growing Cities (http://growingcitiesmovie.com). This film examines the role of urban farming in America and asks how much power it has to revitalize our cities and change the way we eat. After watching the film, we will have a Skype session with one of the filmmakers, Dan Susman!

Location: Campion Courtyard
Local vendors providing fair trade items, locally-grown food, and other products, as well as groups engaged in service and advocacy in these areas will be on hand in the Campion Courtyard. We will have representatives from Honey Grow, Whole Foods Market, Mom’s Natural Market, Philly Fair Trade Roasters, Project Home, Weaver’s Way Community Programs, and many more.

This conference provided a forum for serious, reasoned dialogue on the questions surrounding the pharmaceutical industry’s responsibility in assuring public access to needed medication. Our goal was not to presuppose any specific answers to these questions; rather, the goal was to engage various constituencies, notably, healthcare and pharmaceutical industry representatives, academics, the press, and local government officials.
