Bill Kane

Bill Kane was killed in an automobile accident while driving home following a day of taking inventory at the Oaks Warehouse of Fleming Foods.

Bill was in his mid-thirties at the time of the accident. He had graduated from Villanova University and had worked for A & P prior to joining Fleming. He was a buyer/merchandiser for Fleming and was a very popular individual with his colleagues and the many representatives that had occasion to call on him at Fleming.

During his time with Fleming, he was the center of a social gathering of many people who would meet at local pubs after work to unwind and enjoy good fellowship. He organized tailgate parties at Eagles Football games and made the everyday work of doing business something that one looked forward to, especially if that work took you to Fleming Foods and Bill Kane’s desk.

Following his untimely death, a group of five men met at the offices of Genuardi Markets to discuss the creation of a lasting memorial to their fallen friend. What they created was the William J. Kane Scholarship at the Academy of Food Marketing of Saint Joseph’s University.
