You submitted your college application to St. Joseph’s University, you waited patiently by the mailbox for days (maybe even became friends with your mail carrier), and finally on a chilly day in late December—you received your red envelope! Or maybe you were one of the lucky few that had the admissions staff, current students, and the Hawk hand deliver the big red envelope to your home. Nonetheless, smiles (and maybe even happy tears!) and excitement filled the room as you held your admission letter to Hawk Hill. You then posted a photo or video of you receiving your letter, tagging it with #redenvelope, on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and sharing the hype with other admitted students!
So, now what? Well, the hype of the college process is not over; it has just begun! Here are some of the next steps you should be taking after you receive your red envelope:
1. Log in to The Nest.
Now that you’ve been admitted, you have access to a special site specifically for you! Visit The Nest, SJU’s online student portal, to register for admitted student events, view exclusive videos, review your financial aid package (when it becomes available in late March), and make your official deposit to become a Hawk!
2. Join the SJU Class of 2020 Facebook group.
The SJU Class of 2020 Facebook group is a great way to start connecting with other admitted Hawks! We will also be posting useful information throughout the spring and summer that will help you with making your SJU decision and your transition to Hawk Hill. Are you a parent of an admitted student? We have a Facebook group for you, too! Join the Parent of SJU Class of 2020 group today.
3. Visit SJU.
Come explore Hawk Hill and witness the magis first hand! We offer a presentation and campus tour twice a day Monday through Fridays, and also some select Saturdays. We also have a separate presentation mid-day just for admitted students with more specific information geared towards prospective Hawks.
If you’ve already been to a daily tour and know the basics, it’s time to examine life at SJU even further through our exclusive admitted students’ events! Come see what it’s like to be a Hawk for the day through our Walk with a Hawk shadow day and mark your calendar for Saturday, April 2nd and Sunday, April 3rd because you do NOT want to miss our most celebratory admitted student event: Admitted Students’ Day! We offer two options to choose from where students and parents will be fully immersed into the SJU culture. You will hear from faculty, staff, and students, get a chance to explore all of our majors in-depth, take a tour of the campus and residence halls, and learn more about our campus community. Come join the party and see if SJU is the school for you!
4. File the FAFSA.
At SJU, your admission counselor also serves as your financial aid counselor. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to see what types of aid you will qualify for! The FAFSA is available to file as of January 1st, 2016 and our preferred deadline is February 15th. This gives us some time to create a financial aid package for you that you will be able to view through The Nest in late March. Within this financial aid package, you will be able to see any University and/or federal grants and loans you qualify for, in addition to any merit based scholarships that you may have received. SJU’s school code is 003367, which must be listed on your FAFSA for us to receive your information.
5. Make your SJU decision!
In the words of a celebrated Jesuit, Pedro Arrupe, S.J., “Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.” You’ve taken all of the necessary next steps to becoming a Hawk by visiting campus, attending class, immersing yourself in the SJU community—and in the process, you’ve fallen in love with Hawk Hill and all it has to offer. To officially become a Hawk, your next step is to submit your deposit! This non-refundable fee will secure your place at Saint Joseph’s University and allow you to start living the magis.
Congratulations, once again, on your admission to Saint Joseph’s University! We are excited to guide you through this process, encourage you to become an official member of the SJU Class of 2020, and hope that Hawk Hill can be your home for the next four years!
