Wynnefield Overbrook Revitalization Corporation (WORC)

was created by a coalition of community leaders led by Mayor Michael Nutter (then the 4th District Councilman), Congressman Robert Brady, members of the Wynnefield and Overbrook communities, and Saint Joseph’s University.  This economic and community development nonprofit works to leverage the socio-economic power of local anchor institutions and strong community assets, creating innovative collaborations for mutual benefit.

WORC partners with other stakeholders and community-based organizations to:

  • improve housing conditions and home ownership rates
  • stimulate renewal of the neighborhood’s principal commercial corridors
  • pursue redevelopment of vacant commercial and institutional properties
  • act as an economic development catalyst for neighborhood businesses
  • address quality of life issues such as tree coverage, storm water management, access to healthy food, and need for community recreational facilities,
  • secure workforce development opportunities for neighborhood residents,
  • provide leadership to define and implement comprehensive neighborhood strategies
